(Synara Fang)A Ghost in the Fog(Cassie Gray)
You may be deceived if you trust too much, But you will live in torment if you don't trust enough
It was past midnight, the night slowly delving into the early hours of the morning. It had rained all day, leaving the night air humid with a small fog rolling in. Most of the streets were deserted and the park which Cassie walked was practically empty.
"Sleep well," Cassie whispered, walking away from a young man. He was asleep, propped up against a bench. Sighing, Cassie turned, walking away. Her heels clicked softly and she licked her lips. It was still a bit strange to her, drinking blood. It had been about nine years and even though she no longer rejected the very thought of it, she still felt bad for the people she took it from.
Oh well...all part of this life. With a shake of her head, Cassie continued down the path toward the end of the park. She was feeling a lot more energized, a bit of a bounce in her step. Her cheeks had a soft, healthy flush and she felt stronger. She had traveled for about two days to get here and hadn't been able to feed since leaving home.
Despite being a wanderer, Synara could usually find herself a better place to sleep at night than a park bench. However, it was the summer, so whyever would she want to? There was something peaceful with the way leaves rustled in the summer wind, and warm air swirling across the ground. She was perfectly equipped to defend herself. However, being out at night would also be the perfect chance to get a glimpse of those she was tracking in action. Did she know it would be tonight? No. Was she ready? Always.
She was almost asleep, head resting against the cooling wood of a bench deep in the shadows under a tree. However, she kept her eyes open in slits at the detection of movement closer to the park entrance. Silhouetted in front of her was a woman bending over someone in the same boat as Synara. Maybe it was her being paranoid, but she instantly saw what she wanted to see. After all, what normal reason would there be for what she was watching? She felt a chill as the other woman stood up, licking her lips, and walked out.
Heart beating a little faster, she drew her knife and hid that hand in her jacket. For a second she watched the direction the other was going in, then quickly jumped up. Keeping in the shadows, she ran quickly through the park, overtaking the possible vampire. When Synara stopped and walked casually out the other entrance, the young woman was walking towards her. Synara looked at her sharply, but even she would not become a murderess without real provocation, or at least being sure her convictions were true; at night, in the shadows, of course her eyes were playing tricks on her. This was not the vampire of five years of nightmares. "Oh, hello. I didn't expect to meet anyone here this late."

A cool wind blew against Cassie's face, pushing some of her brown locks in front of her eyes. She pushed them aside, tucking them behind her ear. As she turned cobalt yes forward, she saw figure emerge from the fog. Dark hair, dramatic (slightly scary-looking) make-up. She stopped, watching as the girl came closer. Warning bells went off in her head as her stomach clenched and a lump formed in her throat.
As the girl spoke, Cassie forced herself to slowly calm down. She smiled, body visible relaxed and at ease. She walked forward, keeping a careful eye on the girl.
"Neither did I. I guess I'm not the only one who finds walking at night peaceful," Cassie replied, coming to a stop before the girl. She smiled, appearing nonthreatening in every way. Her eyes moved over the girl, observing and committing her to memory. She was quite young, only 16-17 as far as Cassie could tell.
Synara noticed the apparently friendly and peaceful manner come over the young woman as the two got closer, but she herself did not inwardly share this attitude just yet. Not at all. Tricks and acting were things she was determined never to fall for. One thing being her brother's sister had taught her was the ability to tell when people were lying. She picked up no sign that the girl was, which was a good thing. Synara allowed herself just to smile thinly. Better safe than sorry. Peaceful. Yes, walking in the night was could be very peaceful. The moon, the stars, the quiet.. unless, of course, you were having the blood drained out of you. The vampire hunter still had her fingers around the knife in her hoodie pocket. She kept an equally careful eye on the other female and regarded her almost coolly. People had to prove themselves and earn her friendliness.
"Just walking and having a look around. Different kinds of people come out at night." What the stranger took that to imply might be a point of interest.

"Yes, I suppose that is true. Though, few tend to be out at this time of night," Cassie replied with a bit of a laugh, carefree in every way. She smiled at the girl. The way they stood, almost staring each other down, was quite, well, silly. Cassie's eyes went to the hand hidden in the girl's pocket. Most likely a gun or knife of some kind.
The small knives hidden inside each of Cassie's boots felt a bit heavier, almost as if her nerves there had gone into hyper drive. The tension in the air was heavy, the words spoken seemed to be laced with double meanings. It was almost as if the two girls were waiting for each other to move.
The sounds of someone standing temporary took Cassie's focus away from the girl. She turned her head, seeing the man from before waking up and standing. With a few mumbled words about drinking too much, he stretched and headed down the path away from them, perfectly fine. Cassie turned her attention to the girl before her with a smile.
"I was thinking of taking a walk into town, would you like to join me? I'm only visiting, so I'd most likely get lost on my own!" Cassie said, walking once more toward the gates. She was curious on how the girl would react. Would she accept her invitation?
