There were times when being able to leave a finger or an arm behind came in handy. Like when you wanted to have a reason to go and talk to that cute boy again....
This was not one of those times...
If there was one thing Aless hated more than being able to fall t pieces,it was losing those pieces. Currently missing her middle left finger, the young rag doll searched the campfire area, knowing she had been there last.
"Finger? Oh finger!"She called stupidly, half hoping that it would answer, half hoping no one else could hear her.Lifting her skirt to her hips, she bent to her knees, searching the grass.
"Oh please tell me it did end in the fire"She pleaded with the steel grey sky, poking a finger into the ashes.
Evra walked towards the campfire alone, looking absentmindedly over the tents closest to it and then at the ground. Not that there was anything to be looked at. A patch of grass, a stone, a finger, a leaf.. wait, a finger? Blinking, he took a step back and picked it up. Judging by the stitching on the end, there was only one person who this could belong to. He thought it was pretty cool how the 'ragdoll' could unstitch pieces of herself and be fine. His own freakishness was something he liked though nothing could be done with it. However it seemed like the girl was always losing pieces of herself accidentally. He would think by now she would have that under better control. Sure enough he heard a voice from up ahead calling for a finger. Heh. Walking the rest of the way over to the campfire he stopped where the other freak was on her knees, searching through the ashes.
"Hey." Evra greeted her and held out her missing finger. "Looking for this?" he asked with a grin.
The ashes were empty. Aless couldn't decide if that was a good thing or a bad thing in her case. Maybe a little bit of both if she thought about it.
When a voice spoke up behind her it took a bit off will power not to scream. Turning to face the speaker she sighed softly,it was just another of the Circ....who had her finger!
"Oh thank you"She smiled happily, taking the lost appendage back. She quickly pulled one of her needles free of her ear and took the spool of thread from a hidden pocket in her skirt.
"One day,I will super glue my fingers into place"She muttered, mostly to herself, even as she stitched her fingers back into place. When she was finished she gave the boy another large smile.
"Again,my thanks. I thought I had lost it in the fire"
Evra gave a friendly return smile when she took her finger from him. He usually tried to be friends with everyone. "You're welcome." He stood and watched as she stitched it back on. Sights such as this weren't so unusual here. One got used to it so it wasn't much of a big deal, but it was still interesting to meet all the different people and see what they were or what they could do. "Better try not to loose it again." Dropping it in the fire wouldn't be good. At least all of his limbs were firmly attached.
Aless smiled softly, wiggling her finger after she finished stitching it back on. The finger moved naturally even after been on the ground for the last hour.
"Eightteen years and I haven't mastered keeping myself together. At least when my body walks off it's easier to find"She laughed.
One of her shows on stage was to have someone from the audience. keep a grip on her head as her body walked up and down the stage without it. It was always a big ending for the crowd.
"I'm Aless"She said, stitcking her hand out to shake his.
Well that was pretty neat, but even more so was what she said about her body walking off. He smiled a little when she laughed; how wonderfully creepy. Evra didn't know what else to say to her so just watched her until she responded. Eighteen years she said, so she was a little bit older than him. The snake-boy was only about fifteen. They both had an act in the show so he was somewhat familiar with her face and talent from that, and that was it. He wasn't sure if they had ever talked a lot before, but was saved from trying to recall her name from her introducing herself. He nodded. "I'm Evra." he introduced himself in turn, then took Aless's hand and shook it lightly.
Aless smiled again, pushing her sewing needle back through her ear again"The snake boy yes? You're show always seems to be a kick with the guys in the audience"She said softly, recalling the sounds she heard backstage during his show.
She dusted off her skirt, shaking out the ashes that fell into it while she was looking for her finger. The quiet between them wasn't awkward,it was a kind of quiet that two people who lived a similar life shared.
Aless smiled again, laughing softly as she wrapped her arms around her stomach.
Evra nodded and grinned. "Yeah." With his green-tinted scaly skin the fact that he was the snake-boy was obvious just by looking at him. He liked to entertain and impress people with the show. It was fun, especially with his act designed to give the audience a scare, so much different from being laughed at in a bad way. Smiling back, he was glad that the silence didn't seem to awkward. Friendly and helpful as he tried to be he was still quiet at times. Oh well. There wasn't too much of a need to search for something to say so he waited to see if she would try first, or not was fine too.
