PARENTS: Anthony and Kaitlin Ivy, deceased.
SIBLINGS: Rachael Ivy, 5 years old.
RELATIONSHIPS: None.
HISTORY: Vancouver was born October 29, 1977 to Anthony and Kaitlin Ivy in Houston, TX. They lived there for a few years, four or five, before moving to a rural town in Alabama. Right after the move, Vancouver had an accident where she was literally ripped open. She almost died due to the amount of blood loss, but her parents got her to the hospital in enough time to save her. Due to the accident, she has a scar that runs from the bottom right of her stomach to the top left, right below where her ribcage starts.
After that Vancouver’s parents were very cautious about letting her out on her own, and they took turns ‘babysitting’ their own daughter. When she turned thirteen, Vancouver began playing the guitar, singing, painting, and drawing that way her parents would relax a bit about her being out and by herself. Two years after that, Vancouver became a big sister to Rachael Ivy. When Rachael was born, Vancouver became more closed off and more protective of her family. The night of Rachael’s second birthday, both of her and Vancouver’s parents died because of a fire that started in the garage.
Rachael almost died in the fire, but Vancouver was able to get her baby sister out before the fire had spread too far into their room. After that they went to live with their grandmother, who died of old age when Vancouver turned sixteen and became a half-vampire. The vampire who blooded Vancouver was kind at first, considering that Vancouver had nowhere to go and no one to turn to since her family was gone. The only thing the vampire wanted to her to do was get rid of her little sister, permanently. When Vancouver refused to ‘take care of the problem’ the vampire decided to take matters into her own hands, though her attempts were in vain.
Vancouver eventually got away from the vampire with her sister still safe and alive. They traveled across the country for three years before Vancouver realized that this wasn’t the life her little sister deserved. Though still on the run from the vampire that wanted her baby sister gone, Vancouver knew that she needed to go somewhere she could settle down. After that, Vancouver took Rachael and joined the Cirque though she was supposed to leave her old live behind when she was blooded. Since then, Vancouver has taken care of her sister like she would her own daughter. Since she treats Rachael like that, Rachael often calls Vancouver “Mama Vee” rather than “Sissy”.

“I am in the school, but not any of your classes. Some of my friends are though” she admitted and Eric smiled. “Though maybe I will pick it up. My mom always said that most teachers don’t know music well…” she admitted and shrugged. “I like yours though. It’s like you put your soul into it” she smiled lightly and he smiled. “I do actually. Most people write about what people want to hear, not what they feel themselves. That’s what musicians should do, in my opinion” Eric smiled at the girl.
“So do you have a job, or are you just a student?” he asked as he set his guitar aside. “Just a student at the moment… I stay with my mother, father, and twin brother at home” she said gently, then she took a breath and leaned against a tree. “I am sorry if I bothered you. Besides my mother and brother, we’ve never seen any other hybrids” she said shyly and he nodded. “I’ve never seen another one either, to be honest. You’re the first one” he smiled. “It’s nice to know you’re not alone in the world, you know?” he chuckled.
He caught her looking at his guitar and he smiled. “I’ve played all my life. It’s sort of a way to cope, you know?” he said and she rested her hands inside her pockets. “My mother has always played music as well… it’s something we grew up with really” she smiled. “And we’re close, but not completely ready to stop yet. But we were close enough where school was fine to start” she said softly and Eric nodded. “Yeah, I remember when I first started to slow down. I was really excited for school and to have a normal life” he chuckled.
“It’s nice to meet you Eric… I am glad I came here today. To meet you, is something special” she smiled. Ahh, that smile. “My mother is a hybrid aswell, and for a while we didn’t know if many others were around” she shrugged softly and Eric nodded. “I understand. At least you have your mother and brother with you to know you weren’t the only one around. It’s not as easy growing up without someone like you” he said softly. “What about you? Have you finally stopped growing?” she asked and he nodded. “I stopped a few months after I turned twenty-one actually…” he trailed off, trying to think of what he did when he stopped.
She moved slightly closer and Eric’s body relaxed slightly more as she did so. “What about your diet… human or animal?” she asked. “If you don’t mid me asking that is…” she said gently and Eric laughed. “It’s fine. I’m a vegetarian actually, because of my mom and one of my friends who died. They were both human” he said as he shut his eyes, remembering pictures and videos of his mother. “It’s not terrible, and I don’t need to feed often. So, I usually eat normal food. You can too, since you don’t need as much blood as a normal vampire” he said with a smile. He could tell she was curious, and he was sort of glad.
He opened his eyes to see her looking at the sky, her skin glowing softly. “Did you always want to be a teacher?” she asked softly and he nodded with a smile. “For the most part, yes. It was something that made me feel normal” he smiled as he watched her eyes. They were filled with curiosity as they scanned over his guitar. “Can you teach me to play?” she asked with a blush. She was nervous, anyone could see that, but Eric thought it was sort of cute. “I’m actually teaching my students, so you’d learn if you transferred to my class” he said with a smile. “But even if you didn’t, I could try. It’s not that hard really” he smiled again.
“I am sorry… I must be annoying you, I didn’t mean to” she said as she looked away and Eric chuckled slightly. “It’s not a problem at all. I’d be curious too if I were your age and just figuring out that there were other hybrids other than my family around” he smiled. She paused and looked at the water. Before he knew it, her shoes and socks were off and she was sitting next to him with her feet in the water. A sigh of pleasure escaped her lips as she rested her hands inside of her pockets once more.
“Have you been here long? In town, I mean” she asked him gently as she took a breath and smiled. “I’ve been here almost a year now. It’s nice actually. How about you? Were you born here or did you move here? Do you like it?” he asked, suddenly being the curious one. “I love it here. It’s easy to relax and have fun with the people I care about. When we were too young to be around humans me and my brother and out vampire friend Zariah would come here and play at times… we were all each other had. Friends could never last because we were older the next day…” she said quietly. “I can’t wait till this just stops… I want to have friends that I can keep and not worry about losing in a day or two” she bit her lip and Eric nodded, knowing just what she ment.
“I know what you mean. I grew up in a larger town than this, and I could never keep my friends. Eventually I just gave up until I slowed down enough to go to school like most kids in my neighborhood…” he trailed off. “Sorry,” she said quietly once again. “Does… it ever get better?” she asked, her voice cracking slightly. Eric took in the question and thought about it. “It depends on the type of person you are. If you grow up and hate growing too fast, it might not get better and you’ll always be stuck as a child mentally. If you embrace it and learn to live with it, it will get better and you’ll be able to deal with it on a more mentally stable level” he said as he looked out across the water.
“I’m not saying you’ll love or hate being a hybrid, but there are some pretty nice things that come along with it. Take the aging thing for instance,” he said, looking at her “once you stop, you never get older physically. You stay the same age for the rest of eternity, just like a normal vampire, and get to do whatever you want with your life as many times as you want” he smiled at her. “Plus, you have all the physical commodities of a vampire. Super strength, hearing, speed. It’s not that bad in reality, you just have to learn to live with it.”
